My wife convinced me to try out the Paleo diet with her, so I’ve had to change up the food I usually eat while hunting. The go-to food for me while hunting is PowerBars, which I always keep a few in my hunting pack. I love the peanut butter flavor and will have one as breakfast, as well as keeping one or two for a snack throughout the day if I’m going to be in the stand or out in the woods for a long time. Since PowerBars aren’t “Paleo approved,” I needed to find something else. Continue reading
Eating Roadkill
Steven Rinella over at Petersen’s Hunting wrote a recent blog post, Why Everyone Should Eat Roadkill. He makes some nice points as to why it is good to eat roadkill, but it’s not a perfect world and there are some serious considerations to be made about eating roadkill. Continue reading
Taking Your Girlfriend Shooting (For Dummies/The Imperceptive Male)
Taking your girlfriend shooting. A great idea. She probably wonders where you are all day and what you been doing. Well, as Luke Bryan says, “drinking beer and wasting bullets.” There are some tips you might want to follow. I’ll never forget one of my friends was always like, “I hate guns, they are awful, I can’t shoot them, it wasn’t fun.” Her boyfriend (at the time, so long d-bag!) took her with all of his friends on a whim to shoot his… .45 cal. The Best Sights of Deer Season
Recently, Daniel Schmidt from Deer and Deer Hunting wrote a short blog post that really got me thinking. He simply listed his favorite sights of deer season – “blaze-orange clothing hanging from washlines; a pickup truck parked near a cornfield; and any of the “Welcome Deer Hunters” signs posted at convenience stores, truck stops, etc.”
I don’t care what sort of mood I’m in, when I see a sign of deer season I instantly feel a bit of happiness and my stress fades away. Here’s a few of my favorite sights of deer season:
- Trucks parked at the edge of cornfields
- Catching a hint of blaze orange walking through a field
- “Deer Butcher” signs
- Catching a glimpse of the day’s kill hanging in a barn
- Groups of guys gathered around a pickup truck as one is showing off his new trophy.
What are your favorite signs of deer season? Let us know in the comments!
