Yes, this is camo, but you shouldn’t wear this. Ever. Go to Cache ladies.
Hunting Outfits
You will enjoy hunting much more if you can still feel your toes. Here is my outfit…
- Baselayers – Nothing beats a good pair of Cuddleduds. They are like a shiny silky long john with lace at the bottoms. They are much warmer than the waffle type long-johns, and stay nice and tight (*That’s what she said) that I also wear them under my skinny jeans to other events. Be sure to put your socks on before your LJs. I usually wear a thin pair of knee-high socks from like Spencer’s or something, then a wool pair over them and over my LJs. (LJs is not actual hunting slang, I just made it up.) You can get them at Nordstrom or Kohl’s, wherever.
- Layers – Depending on how cold it is, I mix it up with thin thermal layers and fleeces. GAP basic tee’s work well, a pair of leggings or jeans works well. Don’t be too bulky; you need to move, get your gun up snuggly, and of course the purpose of the layers is to strip them off when you KSB.(This is hunting slang, for Kill Something Big.)
- A nice non itchy scarf is nice to tie around your neck. Not to be a snob, but I am partial to cashmere.
- Outer layers – Bibs or separates doesn’t matter. You are looking at what normal hunters (not just adorable ones) wear – rainblock, scentblock, thinsulate… all that good stuff… and then stuff that will actually fit on top of that. SHE hunting brand is decent, UnderArmour does a line as well. The problem I run into is most of this isn’t carried in your outdoors stores. And if it is, smaller sizes aren’t. Even with your layers, I find a lot of it is baggy as heck. You don’t want a catsuit obviously, but baggy legs that get caught in briars – not too good. As a size 4, the small size is honestly way too big for me. A lot of the women’s gear is really sub-par. It’s like they think we are stupid and will buy it just because it camo. NOT! I go to the boys section more often than not.
- Gloves – I like Under Armor liners, they have little grippies and can fit a small hand. You don’t want anything bulky or slippery; remember, you’re here to kill shit.
- Ski Mask – Ugly I know, nobody wants to be confused for a boy and really, nobody is going to be able to tell that you are a girl, cause you are going to be all camo’d out. Butttt they do keep your skin from being wind burnt, mask some of your facial movements, and keep you much, much warmer. I like (again) Under Armor, because the material they use doesn’t scratch and irritate your skin. Then, pull your hood over it.
- Boots – make sure they fit, are warm, and comfortable. That’s about it. No preference. I’ve actually been wearing a pair of hot pink Cougar snow boots for like 5 years now but I think they finally sprung a leak last whitetail season. So I will be shopping myself, and let you all know how it goes. (DSW and Aldo are not hunting boot appropriate places to shop BTW, my dears.)
- Duckin’ – Hip waders have the longest inseam ever! Get a women’s short. Otherwise the sizes run by boot sizes and they are made for like, behemoths.
